Since the start of the Genome of Europe (GoE) project, several countries that were not part of the original project consortium have expressed a strong interest in contributing to the initiative and supporting its goal of establishing a pan-European reference genome database. This interest has been evident from the very beginning of the project, particularly among countries such as Switzerland, Turkey, Serbia, Slovakia and Ukraine, which have actively followed GoE developments and explored opportunities for closer collaboration in the field of genomic and personalised medicine. This year, they have been joined by Armenia and Bosnia & Herzegovina.
While some of these countries are currently in the process of becoming official GoE participants, others are unable to formally join the project due to EU funding and eligibility rules. Nevertheless, their commitment and broader efforts to developing genomic and personalised medicine capacities in Europe remains strong.
To support these countries and foster closer collaboration, Genome of Europe is launching the Observer Country Platform. This new initiative will provide a structured channel for interested countries to stay informed about project developments, exchange knowledge and experiences, and help align their national activities with the evolving European genomic ecosystem.
The Observer Country Platform reflects Genome of Europe’s commitment to inclusiveness, knowledge sharing and long-term sustainability, ensuring that lessons learned, best practices and strategic developments can benefit a broader European community beyond the project’s formal consortium.
Through the platform, observer countries will gain insight into key project activities, contribute to discussions, and strengthen their preparedness for future participation in European genomic initiatives.
I case your country is not yet part of the GoE family, but would also like to support the pan-European efforts for the development of personalised medicine, please reach out to us via our contact form!
